Gotland, I love it 🐑

Coming from Stockholm, you’ll pay around 800 kr to and fro being a student. Given it’s a 3 hour ride and a very cool and spacious ship - pretty okay! The ride itself is already quite special. Do try out going to the front of the ship and the sides of it (outside), to catch some sun!

Almost unmissable near the port of Visby you’ll find a rental, which rents bikes and camping equipment together! Even better - they’ll let you leave your luggage there for the day in case you want to make a quick reservation early in the morning. You do have to bring your own sleeping bag however.

Taking a bike onto a bus is allowed. Beware though - the busses can only take two bikes at a time, so try to be at the bus station early!

Contrary to what you might expect, this church has been a ruin for a very long time already - since xxx to be exact. Typical to Swedish architecture however, the inner part of the church has been restored in a very minimalistic way to further host church services.

Finding this church is not too difficult - it’s characteristic arch is visible from a lot of places!

Whether you’re big fan of parks or not - you’ve got to give this one a try. Not being too big, it’s a great place for 20-30min breather in which you can gaze around tons of meticulously planted flowers and trees.

Central to the port, Visby facilitates a small sand beach, which is right next Kallis Kallbadhuset - a large outdoor club that entertains people around with some thumping house beats. When we went there, a reservation was required - chilling out at the beach is just as good though 🏖

If camping in the wild is a bit too intense for you at first, try out being at a camp-site! Included is electricity, warm showers and bathrooms. Being right across a beach it’s a very relaxed way of getting accustomed to the nature - even if this is mostly the destination of young German families.

Getting here is very easy though - there’s a bus straight from Visby, which goes all the way up here. Also, in times of Corona, it is expected that you buy the bus tickets through the app “Ridango”. The tickets you buy there have a QR code, which you can scan in the bus.

Mostly just a place to let your imagination roll and for you to perhaps seek your inner spirit, the fishing village is a peaceful place, preserved to show us how some of our ancestors used live and fish. If you’re for any more information, you’ll have to do the research yourself though (it’s not provided there and it does not try to be a mass touristic place).

For those unaware - in Sweden it’s allowed to camp anywhere that is not a private estate, 200m away from any beach and not explicitly forbidden, due to e.g. being a nature reserve.

Basically, this had to be done.
