Kayaking & camping in the archipelagos for a weekend!

Starting here is not entirely necessary, but it’s a comfortable start getting a ferry to —Vaxholm— otherwise, if time and/or money is an issue, there is also always a bus option! The ride will take you around 1 hour and will be around 6 SEK for students!

This place is the key ingredient to your trip. Literally anything you need will be sorted out by these guys - tents, cutlery, spade, sleeping mat, kayak, kanoo and I believe also sleeping bags. Since me and my friend were total noobs, we even asked for a battery pack, which they usually don’t rent out, but they lent us their personal one. Awesome.

In this route, we’ll be showing you the places they told us to go, but keep in mind, they first checked the internet to see where the wind was going to be blowing from the next couple of days!

Altogether, we spent around 1125 SEK per person for 3 nights, including all the equipment - which I think is super fair. They’ll also give you a map, showing you all the places where you can camp in the wild!

If hanging out at isolated, insane beaches is your thing. Then go here.

Beware there is a badger hanging out there as well. Should be fine, but look out for your food! 😉

As the area around this tiny island is generally nice to explore and mostly uninhabited, you could go on any island. This one in particular is quite likely to be empty, as it doesn’t have a port for any bigger boat to attach itself here. The water is really clear and at some points you see the island’s rock just vanishing deep under water.

Not being the only current or former military island in the Archipelagos, it’s not necessarily unique, but still quite a weird place to go. Empty military tents, small bunkers and concrete paths make this place somewhat spooky, but quite tempting to explore. The Kanotcenter will also explicitly recommend this place as they have a small base there as well!

In order for us to avoid spending money on an extra rental day, the Kanootcenter offered us to arrive at theirs at 10am, exactly when they would open up. Therefore, we chose this place to sleep at, which would be around a 50min kayak distance from theirs. Separated from the Vaxholm port by a low bridge, the water was a lot smoother here than expected though and also in general, it once again was a very secluded area.
